What a fractional CFO does that your accountant doesn't

Most companies between $500K and $50M in revenue have a bookkeeper and an accountant, and nobody who owns the number that actually matters — what the business looks like ninety days out.

Your accountant

Reports the past accurately and files the return.

Closes the books, reconciles the accounts, keeps you compliant. Essential, and entirely backward-looking.

A fractional CFO

Owns the forward view and the decisions that follow it.

Forecast and cash runway, pricing and unit economics, where margin is leaking, what to say to a board or a lender.

Hourly

$250 / hr

$1,000 minimum retainer, paid in advance and credited against hours worked. Open to individual pricing where the scope warrants it.

60 hours a month — a deeper partner engagement, at a volume rate of roughly $183 an hour.

Bookkeeping & systems

$100 / hr, then $80 / hr

Bookkeeping, chart of accounts build and cleanup, and financial system implementation review or implementation management. $100 an hour for the first 10 hours in a monthly cycle, $80 an hour beyond that.

Who it's for

SaaS & subscription

$1M to $50M in revenue, where retention, CAC and gross margin per cohort decide the next raise. Built on nearly 30 years in media, AdTech and subscription businesses.

Owner-operated businesses

$500K to $50M in revenue — trades, health and wellness, laundry and dry cleaning. Real books, a forecast, and an honest read on which locations and jobs make money.

PE-backed & sponsor-owned

Reporting a sponsor will accept, a model that survives diligence, and the discipline a board expects between quarters.

Common questions

What does a fractional CFO cost in Brooklyn?

My retainer is $3,000 a month for up to 15 hours, including up to 6 hours of live 1:1 time. Quarter-time CFO is $11,000 a month for 60 hours. Hourly is $250 with a $1,000 minimum retainer credited against hours worked, and project work is quoted as a fixed fee against an SOW.

When should I hire one?

Usually at one of three moments: revenue past roughly $1M with no forecast you trust; a raise, a sale or a lending conversation coming up; or margins moving and nobody able to tell you why.

How is this different from my accountant or bookkeeper?

Your accountant reports the past and files the return. A CFO owns the forward view — forecast, cash runway, pricing and unit economics, board and lender materials. Most of my clients keep both.

Do you work remotely, or only with Brooklyn businesses?

Both. I'm based in Brooklyn and work on site with New York clients across Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. Most of the work is remote, and I take clients nationwide.

Do you handle bookkeeping too?

Yes — bookkeeping, chart of accounts, and financial system implementation review at $100 an hour for the first 10 hours a month and $80 an hour beyond that. Often the first thing worth fixing, because nothing above it works without it.

No charge, no deck. Bring your last twelve months and whatever question is keeping you up, and you'll leave the call with an honest read on whether this is worth paying for.
